Cathy Margiotta's Ski Pro Page

Introduction

Cathy in JapanHi, I'm Cathy Margiotta, Peninsula Ski Club's resident Ski Pro. I am a PSIA Level 2, Master Teacher, certified alpine ski instructor, and I'm available to help our members become stronger, more confident skiers in whatever terrain or snow conditions you want to ski.

I'm also familiar with cross-country and telemarking, so I can advise you if you are planning to expand your enjoyment of winter with those sports.

If you are buying skis and boots or any other ski gear, I can answer any questions that you have. I have taken classes in boot fitting and am well versed in the basics of that skill.

I take lessons every season from some of the best instructors on the East Coast, so my teaching and skiing skills are based on the latest trends in technique and ski education.

For the 2021-2022 season, I am participating in all of the club trips. I'll be available for lessons upon request during these trips. My rates are reasonable and consistent with my certifications. Plus, the club gets a percentage of my earnings, so hiring me is a great way to put money in the club coffers and hone your skiing skills at the same time.

Conditioning

ACL Strong
If I want to:
  • ski above 8,000 feet, then I need aerobic conditioning;
  • ski a variety of terrain, then I need joint flexibility, balance, and muscle awareness;
  • ski most of the day, then I need overall fitness.
I have a workout plan, a schedule, and milestones to accomplish those goals. Do you?

ACL Strong is a good place to start. As you know, injuries to the Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) and other knee structures, such as the meniscus, the Tibia Plateau, and the Medial Cruciate Ligament (MCL) are at high risk in our sport. Healing from an injury to one or more of the structures is painful, expensive, time-consuming, and sometimes involves surgery.

Dr. Leslie Derosiers, PT, DPT, OCS, CSCS, of Colorado, developed ACL Strong as an online, four week course (with two bonus weeks) with simple exercises you can do at home, on your own schedule, requiring minimal space, time, and equipment.

If you think this program might be for you, you can read more about the ACL Strong "Snow Course" on the ACL Strong website and also download the Snow Course flyer.

Once you decide that this course is worth your time and money, we are pleased to be able to offer ACL Strong to our members at a 10% discount, with another 10% going to the club. A good deal for you and a good deal for our club.

Disclaimer: I am not endorsing this course or receiving any financial benefit from it. It's up to you to decide if it has anything to offer. I found it valuable because it got me off the couch and doing something other than random exercises. It only took me about fifteen minutes per session three times a week for six weeks. The videos in the program and concepts presented are easy to understand.

If you would like to sign up for the course, proceed to our members-only ACL Strong registration page.
