What to Expect: Meet us at 10:00 AM start ride at 10:30 for a leisurely but moderately challenging ride to the oceanfront. There are two options for this ride – 1) You may ride through the park on a paved/dirt bike path which is mainly flat but will require some challenging riding if it is wet or crowded. OR 2) You may ride on the new designated bike path on the shoulder of Shore Drive, Atlantic Ave and then on to the Boardwalk at the oceanfront area which is a little further but dryer and flatter. Either way will be approximately 10 miles to the oceanfront (boardwalk area). At the oceanfront, you may enjoy lunch as a group or on your own. You may also sun or shop at the oceanfront area and return to First Landing on your own. Or we will return to the park, as a group, in the mid-afternoon.
If it's too muddy in the park an alternate route will be taken so that they still ride to the oceanfront for lunch. lunch at Chix on the Beach at 7th and Boardwalk around noon.
Getting to First Landing: Take I-64 to Virginia Beach. From I-64, take Northampton Blvd.-U.S. 13 North (Exit 282). Go through eight lights, turn right at the Shore Drive/U.S. 60 exit (last exit before the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel). Take a right on Shore Drive and go four and a half miles to the park entrance. Drive time from Richmond, approximately 2 hours.
Where to Meet at First Landing: Enter the park at the light on the NORTH side of Shore Drive. Park and meet in the public parking area to the left of the Gatehouse when you enter the park. Look for an RSC group sign in that parking area. This will be on the BAY side of the park.
